So while wading into the insufferable tentacles of finals delirium, I have been caught off guard with the loss of one of my favorite distractions: the rock star legal gossip blog, Underneath Their Robes. Suddenly about three days ago, it mysteriously was password protected with no discernable explanation. It took me awhile to think to investigate, seeing as I am woefully behind in all my reading, let alone outlining heading into Thanksgiving, however yesterday through the Volokh Conspiracy, Wonkette, and this article in The New Yorker, I have been made aware of the events leading up to the disrobing of the previously anonymous author of this infamous blog. Apparently the female persona of Article III Groupie has been revealed as a US Attorney working out of Newark, New Jersey named David Lat. And so now the gig is up and the site was shut down.

How disappointing considering only a month ago I made that blog the highlight of my lastest law school monthly article. So that was interesting and since it affects the world of blogging-it has been echoing around the blogosphere for days, I felt compelled to make mention of the transgression. Foremost: Yes, I admit that I have on the slight occasion fancied A3G to be an attractive young woman galavanting around some sun drenched city between her big law firm job and her computer just waiting for me to run into her and she would admit to being the mastermind behind this witty, intelligent, gossip-ridden site-probably after sleeping over or over lunch.

While I have no problem with the apparent revelation that A3G is more likely a gay man, it does take just a little something off the fantasy aspect for me being a straight guy. I’m actually intrigued how many comments on other sites address this little aspect of UTR. I actually hadn’t thought about it until just yesterday in retrospect. I think I was imagining a younger, legally-armed Sarah Jessica Parker with darker hair maybe-subconsciously, but nevertheless the legal sapience driving this blog certainly made the unknown, unseen woman that much more attractive (although apparently female readers everywhere knew all along it was not a woman writing-oh well, guys are easily fooled). I think this certainly should give any smart girls out there confidence that intelligence is definately a turn on, and at the same time shows that certain perspectives or “voices” in our society only seem to work for one sex or the other. Just please tell me Blonde Justice is really a woman!

There are lots of issues related to this revelation that could be discussed, and I also have a lot of observations about finals. However, the rest of tonight is dedicated to learning about the 4th and 6th Amendments.

I will say that come winter this blog itself will hopefully gain more focus because looking back at UTR, there was a definite purpose to that blog and this blog has no purpose as of yet. The anonymity thing is sort of interesting too. For now it just serves as hopeful entertainment, distraction, and procrastination for myself and my peers as we get through the next month or so.

One last thing: In retrospect, I think UTR was so good that it could still continue even with the persona of A3G destroyed, though I think that might come at the cost of Mr. Lat’s job. If he decides to permanently discontinue UTR, then I bid farewell to possibly the best blog I have seen on the internet thus far. Though please, if anyone has a comparable substitute regarding virtually any topic-though law or politics especially-leave a comment to help me fill the void!
